Mr. Graham Connolly promoted to 5th Degree

Having already dedicated much of his life so far to his art, Mr. Graham Connolly is celebrating his 20th Taekwon-Do year in style having successfully passed his examination for 5th Degree Black Belt.

While in Toronto, Canada for the GTF Grandmaster Park Jung Tae World Cup, 26 year old Mr. Connolly from the Pyong-Hwa School of Taekwon-Do in Cork was invited to partake in the promotional testing under the panel of Masters in attendance. Presiding over the black belt testing were Master Ha Xuan, Master NG Hooi Lai, Master Wee Sun Ngiaw, Master Harris Bonfiglio, Master Michael Bonfiglio, Master Chris Gantner, Master Vito Palella and Master Dang Kok Wai. Over the course of the 3 hour examination, Mr. Connolly, along with senior members from the USA and Russia, was tested on basic techniques, patterns, 1, 2 and 3 step-sparring, free sparring, self defense, knife defense and board breaking techniques. It was a comprehensive and intense test but Mr. Connolly provided all the right answers with Masters commending the power and precision of his techniques.

     
 

GTF Park Jung Tae World Cup, Canada 2008

A team of 13 students from Pyong-Hwa school of Taekwon-Do returned from the recent Grand master Park Jung Tae World Cup having won an impressive total of 22 medals.

The championships itself was held to commemorate the GTF’s founder and legendary Grandmaster, Park Jung Tae. From July 17-19, competitors from across the globe, representing many different Taekwon-Do groups, GTF and ITF alike, came together in their hundreds in Ontario, Toronto, to celebrate the legacy of the man renowned as “the people’s Master”. Countries represented included Canada, USA, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Germany, Greece, Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Turkey, Latvia, Malaysia, South Africa and Italy.

WASCO World Championships, Italy 2008

The World All Styles Combat Organisation, W.A.S.C.O. World Championships 2008 took place in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy from 28 May - 1 July. Hosting nearly 800 competitors from over 20 countries, participants came together to compete from different martial arts domains including Taekwon-Do, Karate, Kickboxing, WASCO Kickboxing and Kung-Fu.

Mr. Graham Connolly, 4th Degree and Ms. Janice Connolly, 4th Degree, senior instructors at Pyong-Hwa School of Taekwon-Do won Gold in both senior male and female Taekwon-Do patterns categories. Graham also claimed the top prize in the men’s semi-contact heavy weight sparring event.

TKDI European Championships - April 2008

Beginners Classes October 2007

JUNIORS: We are starting Junior Beginners classes on Tuesday 2nd October at 6.00p.m. For children aged between 6 and 12 years. This class will take place in the Main School, Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, under the Instruction of Ms. Janice Connolly 4th Degree.

SENIORS: Beginners classes for Seniors 13 years and over will commence on Monday 1st October at 7.45p.m. The Classes will take place in the Sports Complex, Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, Tramore Road, Cork.

Taekwon-Do Alliance Open Championships October 2006

Scottish National Championships 2006

Students from Pyong-Hwa School of Taekwon-Do travelled to Scotland to compete in the GTF Scottish National Championships. The Team were hoping to follow the success they had at the GTF World Championships in Sardinia in May. The Black Belt Compeition took place on Saturday with Coloured Belts competing on Sunday. Months of hard training has paid off again with some excellent results across the board.

Senior Black Belt Promotions

After the Success of the GTF World Championships we were given further reason to celebrate when Mr. Con Connolly and Ms. Janice Connolly of Pyong-Hwa School of Taekwon-Do were promoted to 5th and 4th Degree Black Belt respectively. Father and Daugher were examined by GTF President Mrs. Linda Park and Master Gianni Sarritzu. The testing involved pattern reviews, aerial kicking, sparring, self defence, destruction and a thorough examination of their technical knowledge of Taekwon-Do.

GTF World Championships May 2006

A team of 10 students from Pyong-Hwa school of Taekwon-Do returned from the recent 6th GTF World Taekwon-Do Championships having won an impressive total of 11 medals.

It was an important event for the Irish, not only because of the great successes in the competition itself but it was also the first event where the team had significant numbers of Junior Black Belt members.

The Championships themselves, held at the Blu Serena Holiday Village in Maracalagonis, Sardinia. With temperatures fixed at 30° Celsius and members in attendance from the U.S.A., Canada, Scotland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Germany, Malaysia, Turkey, South Africa, Italy and Ireland to name but a few, the event was certainly going to be a challenge for our Team. The Black-belt competition was first to get underway and with members finally getting the opportunity to put all their hard work into practice. The dedication and perseverance demonstrated by the Irish members over their endless months of training shone through in their performances and they were suitable rewarded with every member achieving a medal winning position in their patterns or sparring category.
